20th September 2025
Yorkshire Three Peaks – 23 miles, 5,200ft

Starting at the Yorkshire Dales national car park (pay & display) near the Crown Hotel, we’ll head south to Saint Oswald’s Church then head east as we head uphill to our first summit of Pen-y-Ghent (694m). After a few mandatory photos at the trig point we’ll descend westwards on the Pennine Way then north west towards Lodge Hall for an undulating/flatter (relative to the 3 big climbs) 10km towards Ribblehead Viaduct. We’ll run alongside the viaduct skirting arond the top of Force Gill waterfall onto Whernside (736m). From here we’ll head southwards into the valley of Chapel-le-Dale and pass through some limestone pavement on to a very steep climb up to Ingleborough (723m). After this third and final climb we’ve then got a steady downhill along gravely paths and grassy fields back to the start.

Edale Skyline – 20 miles / 3,000ft

Starting from Blue John Cavern we’ll head up to the summit of Mam Tor via it’s western staircase and then follow the Great Ridge to Lose Hill. We’ll then drop into the valley before ascending up to Win Hill (hopefully with clear views over Ladybower) then head north west passing Hope Cross on the way to the Kinder Scout plateau. Following the southern edge all the way to Kinder Low trig point, we’ll then head along the flagstone path over Brown Knoll then eastwards along Lord’s Seat to get back to the start.

Padley Gorge, Stanage Edge & Burbage Edge – 13 miles

Starting from Grindleford train station we’ll head north through Bolehill Wood and Quarry, cross the A6187 and pass by the Mother Cap and Over Owler Tor rock formations then towards Toothill Farm. We’ll then work our way towards the Long Causeway by Dennis Knoll car park and up to the trig pillar at High Neb. Then heading south east along Stanage Edge and Burbage Edge we’ll again cross the A6187 to descend through Padley Gorge back to the train station.

Macclesfield Forest & Shuttlingsloe – 8 miles

Free Run – Ideal for first timers or newcomers to trail

Parking on the north edge of Ridgegate Reservoir (where Standing Stone Road meets Clarke Lane), we’ll meet outside the Leather’s Smithy and take the footpath south over the dam and into the woods. We’ll follow this southwards as it climbs on wide gravel paths winding round to Nessit Hill and work our way south east to briefly leave the treeline and follow the flagstones up to Shuttlingsloe trig point.

From here we’ll retrace our steps back into the forest to standing stone car park where we’ll turn left alongside the road then turn right (north) and head to Chapel House Farm and briefly join Charity Lane. We’ll cut through the forest once more towards Hacked Way Lane then skirt our way round Tegg’s Nose to cross Bottoms Reservoir dam then follow Clarke Lane back to the cars.

Meeting at 8:45am for 9:00am start – Plentiful free layby parking on Standing Stone Road.
